Training programme: Book Publishing

Conducted by: Centre for Studies in Book Publishing, University of Calcutta and Publishers & Booksellers Guild, Kolkata

Training venue: Chandramukhi-Kadambini Sabhagriha, University Central Library, University of Calcutta, 87/1 College Street, Kolkata - 700073

Timings: 10.00 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Saturday for two weeks from 5 December 2011.

Note: Background materials for the lectures and further reading lists would be provided to the students.

• Eminent professionals from leading publishing houses in India will provide insights into various aspects of book publishing.
• Overview of publishing
• Effective and particpatory interaction is ensured through case studies, group discussions, workshops.
• Hands-on experience and interactive sessions in publishing houses form an important segment of the course.
• Aims not only hone the skills of aspiring young publishing professionals but enable them to carve a niche for themselves in the industry as well.

• Organisation and structure of a publishing house

• Copyright issues
• Book production and design
• Warehousing and inventory
• Book promotion and publicity
• Book distribution
• Sales and marketing

Eligibility:

• Must be a graduate.
• Those with higher education or experience in the field of Publishing will be given preference 

Internship:

• The Trust has also made arrangements to send candidates for training to different publishing houses as intern.
• Internship would be offered to deserving candidates subject to selection of candidates by the publishers.
• The Internship would begin from 1 January 2012 for two months.

Selection process: Based on the qualification and experience and interview if required.
